The Manufacturing Division of Pathfinder Services Inc. began with the organization in 1966 to offer employment for people with disabilities. The Division began as a sheltered workshop in September of 1966 in Fred Teddy’s basement in Huntington, Indiana. In 1967, the sheltered Workshop became known as “The Village Workshop.” In the spring of 1967, the workshop moved to a building on Byron Street in Huntington. Triad-Utrad and Memcor of Huntington were the first businesses to supply work, but many other businesses did also, and there was never any lack of work. There were only four clients at the end of the first year and ten after two years. Teddy became a full time supervisor in August of 1967. Later in 1967, Donald Shiltz was hired to manage the workshop program, and Teddy continued to supervise the floor operations.

In November of 1969, the workshop moved to the former Clear Creek School located six miles north of the city of Huntington, Indiana.  After eight years at the old Clear Creek School, the workshop moved to its current location at 1152 East State Street in Huntington. The workshop is located in the back of Pathfinder Services Inc.

The expansion of the workshop was slow at first. Equipment for plastic shrink-wrapping purchased in 1983. In 1980, in cooperation with Huntington North High School of Huntington, a vocational training program was begun, placing high school students in the workshop for two hours per day. In 1982, a resistor-capping machine was obtained from Advanced Engineering of Huntington. Later in 1982, the Manufacturing Division of Pathfinder Services Inc. began operating, providing income, employment and a new type of training.

Today, the Manufacturing Division of Pathfinder Services Inc. employs 22 adults with developmental disabilities and three supervising staff. The Division’s 10,000 square foot facility is equipped with a dock, central air, 440 3-Phase outside ventilation, and up-to-date manufacturing equipment.
