Manchester Recycling Inc. has sold its collections operation to Pathfinder Services of Huntington.
Pathfinder Services will continue to serve the recycling needs of several businesses, schools and government agencies throughout Wabash County.
Manchester Recycling has serviced Wabash County for the past 14 years with collections exceeding more than 28 million pounds of recyclable material. The not-for-profit organization was
instrumental in helping the Wabash County Solid Waste Management District establish a countywide drop-off recycling program in 1993.
MRI was the district’s contractor for the drop-off program from its inception until the summer of 2004. MRI failed to retain the contract at that time and began to operate entirely on the collection
of commercial cardboard, mixed paper, tavern glass and tin food cans. Declining market prices and increased fuel costs forced MRI’s board of directors to re-evaluate the company’s mission.
MRI proposed the acquisition to Pathfinder Services-Recycling Division so their customer base could remain environmentally conscious and continue to recycle without increased fees or fuel
surcharges.
“Passing the torch to another not-for-profit with similar ideology and a larger pool of resources was in our customers’ best interest,” MRI Director of Operations Scott Ogan said.
MRI appreciates the public’s conscientious efforts and continued support over the years. It will continue promoting and advocating recycling in the Wabash County area, but will be redirecting
its focus toward non-operational aspects which are yet to be determined.
Pathfinder Services anticipates collecting increased volumes of recyclable materials in Wabash County and is committed to providing the same level of service the clients have come to expect.
Anyone interested in exploring recycling collections should contact Steve Stanley, 260-359-9430.
All other recycling questions and concerns should be directed to the WCSWMD office, 260-563-
7649.
