Preparing Young Adults for Their Future
Pathfinder Services Pre-Employment Transition Services are for students with varying abilities who are still enrolled in school to explore career and educational options beyond high school. Students who qualify work with staff members to build social and independent living skill, learn about self-advocacy, and participate in education and career exploration activities.
Students explore jobs through interest and ability surveys, transition assessments, career websites, and high school career classes. They are trained in soft skills, employability, transportation, proper social and interpersonal behaviors, and how to live independently to prepare them to enter the workplace. They consider paid and unpaid work experiences, internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, and volunteer activities. Pre-Employment Transitions Services prepare students for traditional vocational rehabilitation services offered through Pathfinder Resource Connection.
Students explore education through college tours and college websites that provide information on topics like transition from high school to post-secondary education and available resources for housing, financial aid, and advocacy.
Pre-Employment Transition Services empower students to be self-advocates by teaching them about self-awareness, disability disclosure, requesting accommodations, and understanding their rights.
