Making A Difference

Welcome to our newsletter! We hope you will enjoy browsing through our featured stories, recent news and upcoming events. We look forward to sharing with you monthly how we are all Making a Difference in the lives of those we serve.

Meet April: Prospering Through Art and Community

April has been a part of the Pathfinder Services family since 2002 when she moved into a group home as a young adult.  Thanks to the support she receives from her staff at the Little River Art Studio and in her supported living home on Ash Street, April has found her niche and is flourishing.

Those who are included in April’s circle of friends know how playful her personality is and how bright her smile can be when talking about her favorite things.  All of April’s positivity is reflected in the colorful projects she is a part of during her time at the Little River Art Studio. When April and her friends arrive at State Street, they discuss their objectives, have some coffee and when the studio opens at 9am, April jumps right in.  “I set up the paint and I pick out the music. Justin Beiber is my favorite.  I like to help my friends at the stitch table.”

The children of Pathfinder Kids Kampus were recipients of a generous toy donation courtesy of JAKKS Pacific Toy Company and Pacers Sports Entertainment this holiday season. The donation was part of the annual Pacers and NBA Season of Giving initiative. The toy distribution at Kids Kampus was given by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the Pacers’ NBA G League affiliate.

Christmas Celebrations

Holiday Celebrations: December was a busy month for those we serve and staff members!  Many attended celebration events in Fort Wayne and Wabash, several staff members went caroling to the homes in Huntington and Roanoke, there was a decorating contest at our State Street location in Huntington, and Santa visited the Culver home.  We all enjoyed spending time with our friends, family and community during the holidays!

How YOU Can Make a Difference

There are many ways to get involved and support our mission outside of direct monetary donations. Everything from purchasing pieces of art to volunteering your time and talents furthers our cause. Even shopping at Amazon Smile, purchasing pies or donating services to fulfill a dream are all simple ways you can make a difference in the lives of those we serve.

Visit the new storefront at Creative Abilities

In December, our Creative Abilities Art Studio in Huntington moved to Life Church on State Street. With longer storefront hours thanks to Cafe of Hope, full access to Champs Academy, and more opportunities to be a part of the community, our artists are sure to prosper.

Support a Dream Request

Earle is hoping to attend the Killer Queen concert at the Honeywell Center in July.  Chester would like to take an art class.  Morgan and her family would like to visit Brown County.  While a direct monetary donation can fulfill our many dream requests, we love it when local businesses and individuals provide donations of their services, talents, or tickets to make these dreams happen.  For more details on how you can help dreams come true, contact us at 260-355-2573.

Volunteer

Volunteering at Pathfinder Services can be as simple as being a friend – we refer to this as natural support.  Many of the individuals we serve enjoy sitting and spending time with others in their homes or at day services locations.  We are also always looking for those who are willing to give of their talents such as art or culinary skills;  If you are interested in volunteering your time, please contact us at 260-355-2573 or [email protected]

Shop at Amazon Smile

AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support Pathfinder Services every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you’ll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to Pathfinder Services.

Donate Items to Be Repurposed

Our art studios are always taking donations of items to creatively repurpose – lumber scraps, beads, fabrics, tiles and more can be turned into beautiful works of art.  Donations can be made at 900 East State Street in Huntington or 113 Water Street in Plymouth.
