Pathfinder Services Celebrates Kids Kampus Expansion with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
HUNTINGTON, IN - Pathfinder Services held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning, Monday, February 15 at 10 a.m. to celebrate the completion of the expansion to the building, located at 435 Campus Street in Huntington.
The expansion includes the addition of four new classrooms set to grow the Early Head Start Program. The expansion came about when Kids Kampus received Duration Funding from the Office of Head Start last year for the purpose of better meeting the community’s need for increased free childcare for families experiencing poverty, homelessness, or have children in foster care.
“We know that early and equal access to quality education is the first step to building healthy communities in the future,”
says Danielle Tips, President and CEO of Pathfinder Services.
“We are so happy that we are able to do our part to meet the growing needs of area families with this expansion,”
Early Head Start is a comprehensive program for children and families in Huntington County, offering families the opportunity to be involved in programmatic decision making, developing and achieving family goals, and being an active participant in their child's development.
Before the expansion, Kids Kampus served 56 children age newborn to three-years old and four prenatal mothers. The breakdown was 40 children attending the center one or two days a week, 12 attending five days a week, and four in home-based care.
The funding for expansion means that now all 40 children who were in the center one or two days a week now have full-time care and are now at Kids Kampus five days a week.
“Not only is this great news for the community and the families we serve, but it is also great for our economy,”
says Elizabeth Hire, Kids Kampus Administrator.
“The expansion brings the opportunity to expand our staff at Kids Kampus, with the addition of five new teachers for our facility.”
Each of the four new classrooms are operating every weekday for six hours per day. Pathfinder Kids Kampus also offers wrap-around care through the Childcare and Development Fund (CCDF) Voucher Program for children who need additional care.
Pathfinder Kids Kampus is an integrated facility that serves children of all abilities in the same learning space. Kids Kampus offers part-time and full-time traditional childcare to children six weeks through age 12. They also offer an Early Head Start program, which includes center-based, home-based, and prenatal options. This program is offered at no cost to low-income and foster families in need of childcare. EHS utilizes a holistic approach to help parents and children meet individualized goals.
