Pathfinder Community Connections will provide FREE tax preparation assistance to people with low-to-moderate income again this year. Additionally, a new self assistance kiosk has been added to assist taxpayers through the Volunteer Income Tax Preparation (VITA) program.
The Kiosk offers a convenient alternative to traditional income tax preparation. This enhanced user-friendly Community Connections service allows taxpayers to file taxes electronically without an appointment. The Kiosk is available on a walk-in, first come, first served basis. Trained volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and provide guidance.
The Kiosk will be open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. and Wednesday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Pathfinder Services’ north campus, 2824 Theater Drive, Huntington. The free tax preparation program runs Monday January 28 through Monday April 15.
To see if you qualify for this free service, schedule a one-on-one appointment or for questions about the self assistance kiosk, call 355.2510 or email [email protected]
2012 marks the fourth year of the VITA program. Since its inception, over 900 tax returns have been completed by over 20 volunteers. Of those who utilized the service, 253 families qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) totaling $1.1 million in tax refunds to participating families. The EITC provides tax credits to working adults and families in low-to-moderate incomes.
