Navigating Tax Season with VITA: A Free Tax-Filing Service That Makes a Difference

Posted 01/19/2024

Tax season is upon us, and for many, the mere thought of sorting through paperwork and navigating tax forms can be overwhelming. That's where VITA comes in to make a meaningful impact. Launching on January 22nd, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is our beacon of support for individuals with lower income, disabilities, or those who speak English as a second language.

What is VITA?

VITA is more than just a free tax filing service; it's a community-driven initiative that strives to ease the burden of tax season for those who need it the most. Designed for individuals facing financial challenges, disabilities, or language barriers, VITA ensures that everyone has access to professional assistance without the worry of hefty tax preparation fees.

The Power of Community Volunteers

One of the key factors contributing to the success of VITA is the unwavering support from community volunteers. Each year, these dedicated individuals generously offer their time and expertise to help fellow community members navigate the complexities of tax filing. The impact of their efforts is profound, as demonstrated by the 1020 low-income individuals we assisted last year. Together, they saved over $200,000 in tax preparation fees and secured an impressive $894,540 in tax refunds.

How Can You Benefit from VITA?

If you find yourself fitting the criteria—whether it's due to lower income, a disability, or English as a second language—VITA is here to assist you. Our volunteers are ready to provide the guidance you need to ensure a smooth and stress-free tax season.
