Faces of Inclusion November 2022
The Thanksgiving season always leaves me feeling incredibly grateful. Today, I am especially thankful for the many people who support us throughout the year. Whether it be the support of time or financial resources, we are better because of your thoughtfulness and dedication. Thank you for empowering those we support in their journey to independence, autonomy, and inclusion!
It is hard to believe we are coming off our eighteenth Turkey Trot! This is the largest fundraising event that supports the programming at Kids Kampus. Each Thanksgiving, we bring in hundreds of runners, walkers, and supporters who lovingly “move their feet before they eat,” at this event; I certainly appreciate each one of them. I want to specifically thank Britt Sather and Indiana Skin Care for their incredible generosity in making this event a success.
Lastly, we have some truly remarkable things happening at the Huntington Arts and Entrepreneurial Center (HAEC). This summer and fall have been packed with artist exhibitions, workshops, and events. I encourage you to check out the HAEC’s social media and website for even more exciting workshops and exhibitions. You can visit Artsincluded.org to sign up for your next creative adventure!
I wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season.
Thank you for being a friend!

Carole Holmes Gordon Exhibit a HIT at the Arts Included Gallery
Outstanding! Wow, beautiful! Fun and colorful! The response of many visitors who viewed the work of Carole Holmes Gordon on display at the Arts Included Gallery in Huntington, IN.
Gordon’s exhibit, opening on September 30, 2022, saw a full gallery of guests mingling, discussing, and admiring her work on display. Many also took the opportunity to meet the artist and discover the inspiration and motivation behind her art—an exciting and unique experience for Huntington, to be sure.
“What a wonderful evening. The Carole Holmes Gordon exhibit was gorgeous and thoughtfully displayed. The gallery space is a very cool, repurposed historic structure and a real gem in downtown Huntington. Kudos to the Art Center staff.” – Kevin Rice, Art Center patron.
Multiple works have already sold, so don’t miss your chance at the perfect conversation piece for your home. The work of Carole Holmes Gordon is available to be enjoyed in the gallery through November 26th, 2022. The Arts Included Gallery at the Huntington Arts & Entrepreneurial Center (HAEC) is open Wednesday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Weekend hours are Saturday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM for guests to view the exhibit.
For the last month of Gordon’s exhibit, we have a contest going on for children. We have a fun Art Scavenger Hunt that will take you around the gallery to discover the details of selected art pieces. Bring the littles to partake in our Art Scavenger hunt for the chance for your child to win a prize of free admission to an age-appropriate workshop in 2023.
Intern Spotlight
Pathfinder Services has a long history of education and career development through our internship programs. This semester we have had the honor of having Lucie as our intern. Lucie has many interests, so to narrow down her goals for her future career, she took a quiz and it highlighted three areas of strength, artistry, enterprising, and social. That quiz leads her to meet with our Volunteer and Events Specialist to find the perfect placement for her within Pathfinder. It turns out the Development team was her match, and she joined the event planning team.
Lucie has since helped plan and orchestrate two of Pathfinder’s major fundraising events, Toast to the Arts and Kids Kampus Turkey Trot. “I am a small person, but I can do big things!” Lucie shared when reflecting on her work. “I discovered I like everything about event planning.” She continues, “From the little tasks like putting safety pins in baggies for Turkey Trot on up to bigger event tasks like running operations at Toast to the Arts.” Lucie especially loved the Toast to the Arts event and shared, “I’m a creative person, and seeing all the art and knowing the event was supporting a good cause just made me feel happy inside.”
Lucie dreams of being an event planner once she finishes school and the experience and skills she gained while at Pathfinder has set her up for her future. She's unsure where she would like to work but knows her time here has been a benefit. “Im learning so much about event operations, One important lesson I learned is how to run things smoothly and to expect bumps in the road but figure out ways to smooth them back out.”
Pathfinder Services offers many internship opportunities to match with students across multiple disciplines. We have Lucie's seal of approval so I would listen. “ The people here are amazing and so nice. They are dedicated and willing to let me learn.” Be like Lucie and reach out to our Volunteer and Fundraising Events Specialist Emily Sommers at [email protected] and snag your placement as an intern.
Summer is out and Fall is in
As much as we love Christmas and the Holiday season, we love Autumn and Thanksgiving just as much. To celebrate the Autumn season, the HAEC just hosted two festive Pumpkin Sculpture workshops celebrating a traditional fall icon with a twist. Each participant used slab-rolled clay to create their pumpkins and specially crafted texturizers to add intriguing detail to make each piece a unique work of art.
“The series of workshops provided families and friends a space to share their creativity and inspire one another. These experiences are at the heart of our goals for HAEC,” Shared Katy Strass, Arts Center Director.
Visiting artist Holly Dowidat of Dowidat Ceramics brought people together in a supportive and creative space to learn and tap into their artistry.
